How to extract or make a tar or zip file in ubuntu

for extracting tar

wget http://downloads.sourceforge.net/project/lame/lame/3.98.4/lame-3.98.4.tar.gz
tar xzvf lame-3.98.4.tar.gz
cd lame-3.98.4

for making a tar .

tar -zcvf prog-1-jan-2005.tar.gz /home/jerry/prog

Unzip

To unzip files, you need to have a command called unzip. To install unzip if you don’t already have it, do this

sudo apt-get install unzip

The simplest way to extract all files from a zip archive is

unzip myzipfile.zip

  1. When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get
    several emails with the same comment. Is there any way
    you can remove people from that service? Cheers!
